Fruit of the Spirit

We find Jesus teaching in the Gospel of John, and he compares his followers to the branches of a tree connected to himself. he followed it with a statement that should cause every follower to evaluate themselves regularly, he said "When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples" So if you aren't baring fruit, what do you do?
